Primary Schools

Numicon maths is a Foundation to Year 6 whole class program based on a concrete-pictorial-abstract approach. It encourages children to explore maths using structured imagery and hands-on materials in order to understand and explain mathematical concepts.

Teacher Handbooks

The Number, Pattern and Calculating and Geometry, Measurement and Statistics Teaching Resource Handbooks contains step-by-step activities that emphasise problem-solving through real-life contexts for the whole class, groups, pairs and individuals. The accompanying Implementation Guide offers guidance on how to use Numicon effectively in your classroom. Created to help save you time, these teaching handbooks include planning suggestions, activities and assessment opportunities.

The step-by-step, hands-on activities support students to develop fluency by using a visual, practical approach to build conceptual understanding and fluent recall.

As a general rule, teachers will use two teaching handbooks across a year level, e.g. Teaching Handbooks 2 and 3 for a year 2 class. The Numicon resources are aligned with the Australian Curriculum.
