Intervention / Inclusive Education
There are three Numicon catch-up and intervention programs to support students from year 1 to 6 and in to the early secondary years for those working at a primary level.
BREAKING BARRIERS The Numicon Breaking Barriers Teaching Pack comprises a Teaching Handbook and an Assessment and Photocopy Masters book for teachers of children who experience difficulties learning maths. The pack provides step-by-step activities and practice, with planning support and assessment, alongside expert advice. The Assessment and Photocopy Masters book contains Assessment Signposts, an Individual Record of Progress and a Child Profile as well as Photocopy Masters to support the activities in the Teaching Handbook. The Breaking Barriers Resource is effective in both intervention and Inclusive Education settings, supported by the Numicon Teaching Handbooks from Foundation to Year 6. |

BIG IDEAS Numicon Big Ideas is a program of additional sessions designed for small groups, focusing on key elements of the Primary maths curriculum for pupils not meeting age-related expectations in Years 3 to 6 (aged 9 upwards), and laying the foundation for success at Secondary level as well as in end-of-Primary assessments. Numicon Big Ideas includes an initial assessment and 48 step-by-step sessions across 5 key areas: Place Value, Adding and Subtracting, Multiplying and Dividing, Fractions, and Working with Fractions, Decimals and Percentages. |

NUMICON INTERVENTION PROGRAM The Numicon Intervention Program has been developed to support maths intervention for 6-11 year olds. The Numicon INtervention Program (NIP) provides training and resources for effective maths intervention using diagnostic assessment and targeted activities to improve children's use and understanding of mathematical language and symbols. The intervention program lasts 12 weeks, with 2 or 3 lessons a week, depending upon pupils' needs. This program is only available for participants who complete a 2 day PD program. About the PD This training focuses specifically on the materials needed to carry out the Numicon Intervention Program including diagnostic assessment. We introduce you to resources for developing mathematical understanding and further develop your understanding of intervention and how our resources best meet the needs of individual children and whole schools, through a rigorous and proven intervention. Having completed this training, you will be able to carry out the Numicon Intervention Program and/or assist support teachers or teaching assistants within your setting with the implementation of the program. We will support and facilitate you to effectively facilitate the intervention with individual and small groups of children. You will feel confident in the on line resources, assessment, and practical resources working closely with other practitioners and school leaders ensuring the best possible start in mathematics education for all children.
